2/26/2021: WWE 205 Live Review and Results

Writer: Walker StewartWalker Stewart

It's time for the most must-see cruiserweight show (barring the Cruiserweight Classic) the WWE has ever seen. It is time for WWE 205 Live. This is episode #220 and was recorded on February 24, 2020. It aired on February 26, 2020. Emanating out of the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida - we take it to Nigel McGuinness and Vic Joseph.

Mansoor and Curt Stallion vs. Ever-Rise (Matt Martel and Chase Parker)

Mansoor and Curt Stallion are taking on my favorite tag team in the NXT system, Ever-Rise. Mansoor has been on a hot winning streak recently. I consider myself a huge fan of Mansoor and wish him incredible success (I just want him to be something more than "The Saudi Posterboy.") This is my first time watching Curt Stallion perform, so I am very excited to witness this one.

Frequent tags back and forth for both teams lead to Curt Stallion (who bears resemblance to a blonde Heath Slater) maintaining control in the beginning. Stallion and Mansoor hit stereo dropkicks on Martel and Parker, sending the latter two to the outside. Suddenly, The Bollywood Boyz make their way to ringside. It appears as though Samir and Sunil are associating themselves with Ever-Rise. Nigel McGuinness, on commentary, refers to the group as "Bolly-Rise." I love that name. Parker and Martel now take control. Mansoor does a great job in the "underdog making a hot tag" role. The Singh Brothers tossed a foreign object into the ring, only for Chase Parker to pick it up, confused and disoriented. As the referee is reasoning with Parker not to utilize the weapon, Mansoor rolls up Parker for the three-count.

Result: Mansoor and Curt Stallion defeated Ever-Rise (Matt Martel and Chase Parker) via Pinfall in 9:34.

Match Rating: 3 Stars

Tony Nese vs. August Grey

Tony Nese, who is now aligned with Ariya Daivari, makes his way to ringside. The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion is currently embroiled in a feud with the lovably arrogant newcomer, August Grey. I have never seen August Grey perform before, but his look tells me that I'm absolutely going to love him. As August Grey makes his entrance, he brings out a special guest - it's Jake Atlas! The numbers are even and now it is time for this one-on-one contest.

Starting off, Tony Nese takes control of the match as he sinks into a headlock. Nese takes some time to boast as Grey takes control of the situation and lands a devastating hurricanrana. Daivari tries to distract Grey, and Atlas stops him in his tracks... only for Daivari to do the same thing 10 seconds later and for Nese to regain control. Grey and Nese are back and forth throughout this. Nese went for a 450 Splash, Grey rolls out of the way and attempts an Unprettier, only for Daivari to stick his nose in it again. Atlas takes out Daivari, Nese takes out Atlas, Grey takes out Nese. August throws Nese back in the ring and hits the "So Much Prettier" (an Unprettier off the top rope, which was very cool!) Grey pins Nese in the middle of the ring for the three-count.

Result: August Grey defeated Tony Nese via Pinfall in 7:11.

Match Rating: 3 Stars

Final Grade: B+

Last Week's Grade: B

This week's episode was very entertaining! I am interested to see what's to come for Curt Stallion and August Grey - the two people who stood out to me most on this show. I always love seeing Tony Nese, and his pairing with Ariya Daivari as the 205 Live Originals has some potential. The Bolly-Rise combination is strange, but it may be very entertaining (as I typically tend to be entertained by anything those four do!) Overall, this is a good show and I am consistently enjoying 205 Live.
